What make police officers easily identifiable are the unique uniforms that they wear. The different branches of public servants have their own uniforms assigned to make them recognizable to the public.

Law enforcement officers have one branch of uniformed police. They are required to wear the unique clothing not only because it is mandatory, but also because it makes them easily recognizable by the public. This not only gives a sense of security to the public that police officers are there to serve and protect them and to maintain peace and order, but it also acts as a deterrent to possible criminal activities.

When a police officer is on duty, it is mandatory that he wear the uniform assigned to him properly. Different countries have different uniforms for their law enforcement officials, but a police uniform should always be recognizable in case the services of the police are required. The uniform commands respect from the public, but strikes fear in potential law breakers.

As a part of the uniform, the officer has a name badge to identify him. Rank patches can be found either at the upper arm or on the shoulder. Standard weapons assigned to the officer are also part of the uniform. Some higher-ranking officials have the medals earned throughout their careers as part of the uniform as well.

It is important to take note that there are manufacturers who produce replica uniforms for costume purposes. These are usually used for entertainment, but there are occasions in which these fake uniforms are used to mislead people and make them think that the wearer is an actual police officer.
